Until recently the design and production of a cost effective One Way Keg™ as an alternative to the returnable steel keg has been an elusive goal. A number of products have emerged over the years but all have failed to meet the rigorous performance requirements at a competitive price.

Since 2002, when EcoKeg Pty Ltd was formed, a small team of people with brewing, packaging and engineering backgrounds has worked with top design and plastic moulding experts to develop the solution.

Following initial recognition of the brilliant design (Australian Broadcasting Commission’s New Inventors Award 2004), the One Way Keg™ has been developed and refined to meet all the requirements for an effective cost and performance alternative to the returnable steel keg for specific market requirements.

The One Way Keg™ makes commercial sense for both small brewers and the giants. For companies with small numbers of kegs it provides a cost effective means of growing their markets without the huge capital expense of purchasing an adequate keg float. For the larger companies, the One Way Keg™ provides a vehicle for building export markets without tying up large numbers of returnable kegs which can be more effectively utilised in the domestic markets. Additionally the One Way Keg™ can be used for supplementing returnable kegs during periods of peak demand where running out of kegs means lost sales.
